Church gives England three prayers for World Cup
May 28, 2010 by alikat.
“(telegraph.co.uk)– The Church of England has composed three prayers to give England fans – and football sceptics – hope during the World Cup.” read more

Update:
“Scottish Prayers For The World Cup:
Forgive us for failing (again). We’ll really try to do better, but can’t promise anything.
God who is always on the side of the depressed and defenceless, can we please have a go next time?
O, Lord, please let anyone but England win, for we are their neighbours and have to live with them.
Grant to our spouses unfailing patience as we watch the games, and may they supply us with an abundant supply of nibbles and liquid refreshment. Forgive them their inability to appreciate the beautiful game which you have created, and stop up their mouths from moaning about there being nothing else on the telly.”

May 28, 2010 by alikat.
“(nytimes.com)– Apple, the maker of iPods, iPhones and iPads, shot past Microsoft on May 26, 2010, supplanting the computer software giant as the world’s most valuable technology company. This changing of the guard caps one of the most stunning turnarounds in business history for Apple, which had been given up for dead only a decade earlier. The rapidly rising value attached to Apple by investors also heralds an important cultural shift: Consumer tastes have overtaken the needs of business as the leading force shaping technology.” Read more

First human ‘infected with computer virus’
May 27, 2010 by alikat.
“(news.bbc.co.uk)– A British scientist says he is the first man in the world to become infected with a computer virus.
Dr Mark Gasson from the University of Reading had a chip inserted in his hand which was then infected with a virus. The device, which enables him to pass through security doors and activate his mobile phone, is a sophisticated version of ID chips used to tag pets. In trials, Dr Gasson showed that the chip was able to pass on the computer virus to external control systems. If other implanted chips had then connected to the system they too would have been corrupted, he said.” Read more

May 22, 2010 by alikat.
let’s clean up our mess!
“(treehugger.com)—On April 14, an expedition of twenty Nepali climbers headed out to clean what’s known as the world’s highest garbage dump. Since the first successful ascent of the world’s tallest summit by Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953, Everest has become a proverbial dump, carrying an estimated 50 tons of trash generated by the 4,000 climbers who have followed since.” Read more
